To understand what veganism means, first you must know how it is defined. In this blog post we will explore both of these things together.

What is the definition of veganism?

Veganism is a lifestyle and dietary choice which seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose. What does that mean?

It means that vegans avoid meat, dairy, eggs, honey, seafood, and any other animal-derived product. Vegans also seek to avoid products made from animal-derived ingredients, such as cosmetics, hair products, or any other goods made using animal testing.

Why do people go vegan?

People are motivated to go vegan for moral, ethical, cultural, religious, health, or environmental reasons.

Is veganism a diet?

Veganism is a way of life that seeks to minimize suffering or one's impact on other living beings. This means eating a plant-based diet, but it also encompasses choices like what products we use, clothing we wear, and entertainment we watch.

What does it mean to be vegan?

Being vegan can mean a combination of different things. It can mean a way to reduce the number of resources needed to live, but it can also be a personal matter. Some vegans choose to be vegan to protect their health, while others do so because they believe that consuming animal products is wrong or unethical.

It all comes down to your reasons for choosing this lifestyle and how you choose to practice it.

Do you have to be perfect to be vegan?

No one is capable of achieving perfection. The problem is that some people want to make the definition of veganism as exclusionary as possible, even if they present good arguments. We personally believe that perfection is the enemy of progress.

We do not believe that perfection, or vegan fundamentalism, can win over the bulk of society. So don’t worry about being perfect, it’s not what veganism is about. By definition, veganism is about reducing suffering whenever and wherever possible or practical.
